Our History

In the mid 90’s Cheryl Schult-Lucido would spend evenings at the dinner table conversing of her vision to own a vineyard, she said if she ever pursued her dream, the name would be “Laujor,” created by combining the first three letters of the names of her children, Lauren and Jordan.

Cheryl was presented with an opportunity to move to Lake County in April 2003. After a very short time she found the ideal location to pursue her long awaited dream. She purchased a 14 acre property and from there cultivated her vision (literally), she planted a vineyard and built her home in the Red Hills Appellation of Kelseyville. At the time they had no idea what was on the other side of the neglected and overgrown walnut orchard. Upon clearing the property she could not believe her eyes, the views were breathtaking! A good friend, Denise said, “Wow this is Little Italy, rolling hills drizzled with vineyards as far as the eye can see.” Such beauty makes one pause with appreciation every day!

Laujor Estate Vineyard was planted in 2006 to Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah Noir, and Cabernet Franc. Our growing region is in the Red Hills AVA which is well known for our well draining soils due to the obsidian resulting from the volcanic eruption of Mt. Konocti over 350,000 years ago.

Cheryl believes in the utilization of a sustainable vineyard system by implementing preventative solutions; healthy soils which produce plants of good vigor and the reduction of disease and pest incidence with proper water and nutrient management resulting in improved yield and quality. With these ongoing practices we strongly believe that we will not compromise the future while meeting the needs of the present.
